Otis Aultman Scrapbook

Otis Aultman arrived in El Paso in 1909, just in time to photograph the Taft-Diáz visit. The noted photographer covered El Paso, its surroundings, and the Mexican Revolution. He worked for the Scott Photographic Company and had offices in downtown El Paso. Over the years he not only made thousands of photographs, but his office also became the headquarters for the Adventurers' Club, a group of soldiers-of-fortune. He was among the first to make news films that concentrated on the Revolution and other southwestern topics. The film was for Pathé News and was shown all over the country. According to Aultman the film was stored in the Pathé Library; however, none of this film can be found today. The photographs were salvaged after his death and wound up in the Border Heritage Collection at the El Paso Public Library. Through the years Aultman kept a scrapbook. He chronicled his adventures humorously with annotations and photographs. It primarily covers the Adventurer's Club, the Taft-Diáz visit, and the Mexican Revolution. It is not a large scrapbook, and it is done on black paper with white ink making it difficult to scan and make readable. A complete list of the Aultman films can be found in "Greater El Paso," published by the El Paso Chamber of Commerce and available on this website.
