"Voice of the Mexican Border" 1933-1938
The Voice of the Mexican Border was produced in Marfa, Texas by Jack Shipman. There are nine total issues of the publication. From the outset there were few numbers printed; thus, only five complete sets are known to exist today. The most common issue available is the one produced in 1936 for the Texas Centennial. By any standards it was not a financial success. The information presented, tough, is excellent. The Highland Herford dominated one issue; another feature John Nance Garner. The Salt War of San Elizario was described in two issues, and two more issues featured El Paso. The cover of one of those issues has photographs of the paintings that hung in the county course house and are now seen in the El Paso Museum of History. There are several features about Texas Ranger John Hughes, and an advertisement for his book is there. Most of the advertising is from the Marfa area, but other areas are included. Much of Josiah Gregg's "Commerce of the Prairies" is reprinted. Lucas Brite of the Brite Ranch underwrote much of this publication and is featured in several articles. The pages listed are for the whole set. The page number given is for the location of the beginning of each issue. There is an index for each issue.
