Lost Restaurants of El Paso Presentation: The Central Cafe & Jaxon’s

The El Paso County Historical Society is pleased to host a presentation by Joe Lewels on the histories of the Central Café in Juarez and Jaxon’s Restaurant in El Paso on Saturday, January 25 at 10:00 AM at the Burges House (603 W. Yandell).  The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be available.

 

Joe Lewels is the author of four books. He holds a Ph.D in journalism from the University of Missouri and he served as an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Journalism at the University of Texas at El Paso from 1972 to 1982.  His most recent book is titled On the Rio Grande: Stories From My Life on the Border, which centers on the history of his family’s flight from the violence of the Mexican Revolution and arrival in El Paso in 1915.

Since 1954 the El Paso County Historical Society has been a driving force in the historic scene of El Paso. EPCHS strives to foster research into the history of the El Paso area; acquire and make available to the public historic materials; publish and encourage historical writing pertaining to the area; and to develop public consciousness of our rich heritage.
