Burges House 1

August Events-El Paso County Historical Society

After a short summer break when it came to events here at the Burges House, we’re ready to roll out a new line up of programs that are sure to entertain and enlighten you.

First, on August 20, Joseph Longo will be presenting on the history of community theater in El Paso. This lecture will focus on community theater as it developed in the city after 1881. Some notable locations to be discussed will be the El Paso Playhouse, the UTEP Dinner Theater, and the Little Theater. It will also feature information on prominent theater actors in El Paso such as Lois Kibee, Polly Harris, and Howell Eurlich.

Then, on August 27, Robert Diaz will be presenting “Silver Screen in the Sun City,” a short talk on the movies filmed in El Paso and how they created a sense of identity for El Pasoans while, to varying degrees, capturing the city realistically or poetically. It will also feature a discussion on the movie stars who were born or visited El Paso over the years.

Both events are free and begin at 10AM at the Burges House, 603 W. Yandell.

We are also working on event programing for September which will include a “Save Your Photo” day. More details will follow as we near the presentation date.

Thank you for your continued support of the El Paso County Historical Society! We hope to see you soon!
