We have identified this photo of Herbert Igoe through his granddaughter Gloria. This is the first time Gloria has seen a photo of her granddad.

From the Risinger Photo Collection: Herbert William Igoe. Born September 11 in El Paso, Texas. Died September 26, 2002 in El Paso, Texas. He father was Joseph Micheal Igoe born in Northern Ireland and his mother Ethel Hope Littell born in New Mexico. According to the 1930 census his siblings were Rhonda, Joseph, Marla, Francis and John Igoe. Herbert enlisted in the Army March 2, 1942 at Fort Bliss. His civilian occupation was listed as “skilled mechanic and repairmen.” He married Alice Belle Dendy Paden September 6, 1947 in El Paso. Herbert is buried in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Herbert’s obituary ran in the Times in 2002:

Herbert William Igoe Sr. passed away Thursday, Sept. 26. He was a longtime resident of El Paso, a retired Air Force Master Sergeant and a veteran of WWII and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was an active member of Fraternity Lodge No. 1111 and the El Paso Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice B. Igoe; his brother, John B. Igoe; sisters Dolly Juene, Francis Aston and Eileen Looney; daughter Alice P. Mudd; son Michael Igoe; grandson Chris Mudd; granddaughter Gloria Gresham; grandsons, Philip M. and Patrick T. Igoe; and great-grandsons, Mathew, Nicolus and Joshua Gresham and Corey and Chad Mudd. Internment took place in Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.

Alice’s obituary ran in the Times February 13, 2007:

ALICE BELLE IGOE, 82 passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2007 in El Paso. She was a long time resident of El Paso and the wife of retired Air Force Master Sargent Herbert W. Igoe, Sr. of El Paso who preceded her in death. Alice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Leon and Alice Mudd of Onalaska, Texas, son Herbert W. Igoe, Jr. of El Paso, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Teresa Igoe of Yuma, Arizona, grandsons, Chris Mudd of Katy, Texas, Phillip and Patrick Igoe of Yuma, Arizona, granddaughter, Gloria Gresham of Katy, Texas; 5 great-grandsons, (Mathew, Nicolus and Joshua Gresham, and Cory and Chad Mudd all of Katy, Texas) and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15th at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 16th at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

There is a street in El Paso named Igoe Place. We will have to do more research on the street name to see who it is named for.
